Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly heaped praise on Indian all-format skipper Rohit Sharma for his exceptional leadership skills. Sourav Ganguly highlighted Rohit Sharma’s remarkable performance in the Test series against England and the 2023 World Cup.

Rohit Sharma is currently leading the Indian team in the ongoing five-match Test series against England on home soil. India secured the series victory with a 3-1 margin after four Tests. Rohit became the first skipper to win a Test series against England in the ‘Bazball’ era.

The home team suffered a 28-run loss in the first Test in Hyderabad. However, the Indian side bounced back with a comfortable 106-run victory in Visakhapatnam. India recorded a 434-run win in the third Test, followed by a five-wicket victory in the Ranchi Test.

Rohit Sharma Is A Fantastic Captain – Sourav Ganguly

In a recent conversation with RevSportz, Sourav Ganguly described Rohit Sharma as a fantastic captain, emphasizing his effective leadership of the Indian cricket team.

“Rohit Sharma is a fantastic captain; the way he led India in the Test series against England, the way he led in the World Cup was amazing. He is a brilliant captain,” said Sourav Ganguly on RevSportz.

Rohit has had a successful tenure as captain, leading India to the finals of the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup. He also led India to draw a Test series in South Africa and secure a victory against England. He holds an unbeaten record in bilateral Test series.

India remained unbeaten in the group stage of the ODI World Cup at home. The Men in Blue defeated New Zealand to reach the final of the tournament. However, they failed to maintain their winning momentum and suffered a disappointing loss in Ahmedabad.

Ishan Kishan Has Surprised Me – Sourav Ganguly

In an interview with RevSportz, Sourav Ganguly expressed surprise at Ishan Kishan’s decision not to play first-class cricket despite being a contracted player. Ganguly emphasized the importance of playing in domestic tournaments.

“You are supposed to play first-class cricket. Once you are a contracted player, you are expected to play in the Premier tournament. Shreyas Iyer is playing in the semi-final for Mumbai in a couple of days. Yes, they are young people and Ishan has surprised me. He was part of the Indian team in all formats. Such a big contract in IPL. I don’t know why he has done that. You must play especially when you are as gifted as Ishan Kishan. When you are playing for India in all formats, you must play. I was surprised by his decision not to,” Ganguly said.

On Wednesday, February 28, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced central contracts for the 2023-24 season. Indian cricketers Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer, who were part of the World Cup squad, were notably absent from the list of 30 players.

In their statement, the BCCI clarified that Shreyas and Ishan, previously in Grades B and C respectively, were omitted from the latest annual contracts. The BCCI emphasized that the players should prioritize participation in domestic cricket, when not playing for India.
