RP Singh heaps praise on Jasprit Bumrah for a brilliant reverse swing set-up for Joe Root
Jasprit Bumrah showcased a masterclass with the ball during England’s first innings as he took three important wickets dismissing key English batters; Joe Root, Ollie Pope, and Jonny Bairstow. He was at his brilliant best with the ball and former Indian pacer RP Singh has hailed the Indian pace-maestro for his brilliant reverse swing against England. He was particularly impressed with the way he set up Joe Root and got his wicket. Jasprit Bumrah has already got nine wickets in this series in just three innings.
RP Singh praised Jasprit Bumrah and the team for maintaining the condition of the ball to favor reverse swing and he was impressed with how Bumrah executed the deliveries and took wickets on a flat track in Vishakhapatnam. Jasprit Bumrah asked his teammates not to overthrow the ball and maintained the conditions of the ball to get some help in reverse swing.
“This is what we were talking about to make a comeback in the match or to win the match, reverse swing is a requirement for both and the earlier you can make the ball reverse swing because the harder the surface of the ball, the more sharp inward or outward movement in reverse swing,” said RP Singh on Cricbuzz.
“If you look at the match closely then many times Bumrah made his fielders and his teammates throw the ball in a particular way and asked them not to overthrow because to make a ball reverse swing is a whole team’s responsibility and not only the bowler’s. If you throw a one-bounce throw then sometimes the ball lands on one surface and sometimes on the other and too much effort is required to make a reverse swinging ball. But alongside maintaining the conditions of the ball, one should also know how to reverse swing the ball,” he added.

Jasprit Bumrah also bowled a sensational inswinging yorker to get Ollie Pope who was settled after playing 55 deliveries in the innings. He rattled the middle and the leg stump of Ollie Pope with his yorker and got the big wicket of Jonny Bairstow also. India has already taken seven of England’s wickets and it is looking like India will take another good lead in the first innings.
India is facing England in the second Test of the five-match series at Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vishakhapatnam. England is currently leading the series by 1-0 after they defeated India in Hyderabad by 28 runs. India is eager to win the second Test to level the series 1-1 and gain some momentum in this series.
India has not lost a Test series at home since 2012 and it was England who defeated them in 2012 by 2-1 under the leadership of Alastair Cook. The hosts have won 16 consecutive series at home since then and they hope to take the streak to 17 by defeating England.
