Former Australian batsman turned coach and commentator Tom Moody heaped praise on England???s number 4 batter Joe Root after seeing the Yorkshire-born batter amass a terrific hundred on day 1 of the 4th Test against India at the JSCA stadium in Ranchi. Moody took to X (formerly Twitter) and expressed his views on Root???s innings, claiming that the knock could well become the deciding factor of the match.

It was Joe Root???s 31st Test ton, 10th against India, and first of the ongoing 5-match series. Having arrived for the tour as England???s most prolific performer in sub-continent conditions, Root was unable to even score more than 30 runs in the first three Test matches across Hyderabad, Vizag, and Rajkot.

Middle-order, the only missing link for England

The 33-year-old had scores of 29, 2, 5, 16, 18 and 7 from his first 6 innings. His underwhelming performances from the middle-order were perhaps one of the key reasons why England weren???t able to pose any dominance as such and couple that with Jonny Bairstow???s poor form, the visitors were looking nowhere near the level they had to be to beat India in India in a red-ball series.

Though England are still the only foreign team to register a Test series win over here in over a decade, doing the same this time around is next to impossible when your middle-order is not complimenting the starts from the top order. Joe Root has indeed shrugged off that conversation for a while but Bairstow is yet to cause an impact and he only has 3 innings to get back to his best from now on.

And if England are still alive in the Test series and have chance of staging a comeback in the 4th Test, then it???s all because of Root???s efforts. He has finally shrugged off the Bazball style of Test cricket and has gone back to basics. Implementing Bazball was not required in the first place itself as he got out in the previous innings by playing some really stupid and rash shots.

???His way is the best way???, Tom Moody opines on Joe Root???s knock

Tom Moody, much like every other former England cricketer and Journalists from the country, thought that Joe Root was better off Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes??? brand new school of thought in which scoring runs rapidly is much more important than giving away wickets even through a soft dismissal.

The former Australian top-order batter who has served as head coach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League, claimed that Root???s way is the best way to play Test cricket and that his comeback knock has brought life back to the English dugout. More importantly, it has brought back hopes that England can turn around the 2-1 deficit to a 3-2 series win at Dharamshala.

???Joe Root showing his way is the best way, quality test which could well be the central pillar for England???s success over the next couple of days.??? ??? Tom Moody wrote via X.

Meanwhile, on day 2 of the Ranchi Test, the Indian bowlers quickly wiped off the remaining English batting tails ??? Ollie Robinson, Shoaib Bashir, and James Anderson. Joe Root would be gutted to not have extended his century into a double as England crashed out for 353 in the 1st innings.
