Dhruv Jurel missed out on a well-deserved ton but he was brilliant with the bat in the first innings for India as he scored 90 off 149 balls. Former West Indies cricketer and legend Ian Bishop has lauded the 23-year-old wicketkeeper for his terrific performance with the bat. India and England are currently facing each other in the fourth Test of the five-match series which is being played at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association Stadium in Ranchi.

England won the toss and elected to bat first and posted 353 runs in the first innings with Joe Root smashing his 31st Test century. India’s total reached 307 with the help of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 73 and Dhruv Jurel’s 90. Dhruv Jurel missed out on his maiden international ton by just 10 runs but his innings was good enough to take India past the 300 mark. He came onto bat when India was struggling at 161/5 and then India lost a couple more wickets; Sarfaraz Khan and Ravichandran Ashwin. Jurel then stitched a 76-run partnership for the eighth wicket.

Ian Raphael Bishop talked about Dhruv Jurel praising his batting. He said that he has been following the youngster since his Under 19 days. Dhruv Jurel played in the Under-19 World Cup for India in 2020. He and Yashasvi Jaiswal were part of the same batch in the Under-19 World Cup. Bishop also recalled Jurel’s 32 off 15 for Rajasthan Royals against Punjab Kings during IPL 2023 in Guwahati. Dhruv Jurel smashed four sixes and six fours in his innings of 90 in the first innings.

“Top effort from Druv Jurel and the lower order. Saw Druv in the U19 CWC in South Africa in 2020. Lost track of him through the pandemic while he was putting in his work in domestic cricket. Then, BOOM, that 32(15) in RR 2nd game in IPl 2023 vs PBKS in Ghawati,” Ian Bishop tweeted about Dhruv Jurel.

Dhruv Jurel has been involved in five dismissals in the two Test matches he has played and has scored 136 runs at an average of 68. He has been brilliant for India both with the bat and the gloves and has been a perfect replacement for KS Bharat who was dropped because of his poor show with the bat in the series. Dhruv Jurel showed his prowess as soon as he got his debut cap. In his first innings, he scored a valuable 46 in Rajkot helping India to put a mammoth total and now in his second innings, he has scored 90 in Ranchi.

India has not lost a Test series at home since 2012 and is on a streak of 16 consecutive Test series wins at home. They are aiming to win the series against England and expand their streak to 17 consecutive Test series. The hosts are already leading the series by 2-1 and a win in Ranchi will seal the series in their favour.
