India batter Devdutt Padikkal had an impressive outing on debut for Team India in the ongoing fifth Test against England. The last game of the series between the teams is taking place at the picturesque Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.

Devdutt Padikkal, who walked out to bat at No.4, made sure that he made his debut game for India special. He came to bat in the tricky phase when India lost two quick wickets. However, he looked unfazed by it and oozed his class as he played some gorgeous drives in his innings.

Devdutt Padikkal made sure that India didn’t waste the start given by the top three and played a magnificent innings. The batter had hit 7 fours in his first 31 runs and made England bowlers look clueless. The Southpaw batted equally well against pace and spin and made many stand and applaud him.

With the way he was batting, it needed something special to remove and England spinner Shoaib Bashir did exactly that. The off-spinner bowled a peach of a ball to which the batter had no clue and was forced to take a long walk back to the pavilion.

Shoaib Bashir bowled a delivery that was a tad bit shorter than expected. He got the ball to spin sharply with a hint of extra bounce. The batter was stuck on the crease and had no clue. He didn’t move forward or back as the ball beat the outside edge to disturb the stumps.

Here’s the video:

Shoaib Bashir was elated with the movement of the ball. Despite not being 100%, he is making sure that he gives his 100% for the team. He also removed Sarfaraz Khan (56) on the first ball after Tea to end the 97 runs partnership with Devdutt Padikkal.

Devdutt Padikkal hit a blistering half-century on his debut and sent a strong message to selectors. He ended with an innings of 65 runs off 103 balls and also hit 10 boundaries and 1 six in his innings. He reached his half-century with a big century.

Devdutt Padikkal gets unexpected debut for India in Tests

Devdutt Padikkal wasn’t in line to make his debut for India in the ongoing fifth game against England. Rajat Patidar was likely to get another chance for the team despite bagging failures in the last three games that he played for the team.

But he got injured and it paved for Devdutt Padikkal to make his debut for the team. The Karnataka batter, however, made sure that he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. With the innings he played on debut, it would be difficult for selectors to drop him.

Devdutt Padikkal was added to the team after KL Rahul got ruled out of the 4th Test. He cut into the squad based on his terrific outing for Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24. In the four games, he scored 556 runs at an average of 92.66, registering scores of 193, 42, 31, 103, 105, 65, 21, 151 and 36 before he was called up. He would want to have another good outing in the second innings.
