Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won hearts with his heartwarming gesture after the completion of the five-match series against England at home. Rohit Sharma handed over the winning trophy to the players who made their Test debut in the series against England.

India played the entire series without Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami. Kohli was absent due to personal reasons, and Shami missed due to injury. India picked five debutants, including Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Akash Deep, and Devdutt Padikkal.

The Indian cricket team clinched the series against England with a 4-1 margin, despite the setback during the series opener in Hyderabad. The home team managed to secure four consecutive Test victories in Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamsala.

India recorded a 106-run victory in Vizag, followed by a 434-run win in Rajkot. They secured a five-wicket win in the Ranchi Test and ended the series with an innings and 64-run victory in Dharamsala, maintaining an unbeaten streak in home Test series since 2012.

Yashasvi Jaiswal concluded the series as the leading run-scorer, scoring 712 runs across five Tests at an impressive average of 89, featuring two centuries and three half-centuries. Shubman Gill scored 452 runs, while Rohit Sharma contributed 400 runs from nine innings.

Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel made significant impacts in their debut series. Sarfaraz scored 200 runs across three Tests, including half-centuries in his debut match. Dhruv amassed 190 runs in the series and was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ in his second Test.

These Guys Responded Pretty Well Under Pressure – Rohit Sharma

In his post-match speech, Rohit Sharma emphasized the importance of team effort in winning the Test. He commended the players’ resilience under pressure, highlighting the significance of taking wickets alongside scoring runs for a successful Test outcome.

“When you win a Test like this, everything has to fall in place. At some stage, people are gonna and people are gonna come and we know that,” Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation.

“These guys are maybe short of experience, they have played a lot of cricket and I can stand here and see that these guys responded pretty well under pressure. The credit goes to the entire team and it was pleasing to see. When you win a series like this, we talk about scoring runs and 100s but it is important to take 20 wickets to win a Test. The way bowlers took responsibility was pleasing to see,” Rohit added.

Rohit Sharma will next be seen in action during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, scheduled to commence on March 22. The 36-year-old will represent the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians (MI), in the upcoming T20 tournament.
