England spinner Joe Root hasn’t been as effective in the ongoing second Test match as he was in the series opener in Hyderabad. Joe Root delivered an unexpected short-pitched ball against Shreyas Iyer on the opening day of the red ball match in Visakhapatnam.
The team led by Ben Stokes is currently facing the Indian cricket team at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The bowlers of the visiting team failed to trouble the Indian batters in the first innings on a good batting track.
Veteran bowler James Anderson attempted to exploit Shreyas Iyer’s weakness early on with short-pitched deliveries. However, the middle-order batter adeptly handled the challenge, prompting Anderson to revert to a more conventional line outside the off-stump.

Shreyas Iyer made a promising start but fell short of converting it into a substantial innings. He played a poor shot against Tom Hartley, and wicketkeeper Ben Foakes took an excellent catch. Iyer had to walk back to the dressing room after scoring 27 runs off 59 balls.
During the 51st over of India’s innings, Iyer tried to cut a shorter delivery from Tom Hartley, but it resulted in an under-edge. Ben Foakes completed a fantastic reflex catch behind the wickets. Iyer added a 90-run partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal for the third wicket.
The 29-year-old has faced scrutiny after scoring only 35 and 13 runs in the first Test against England. Iyer managed just 41 runs during the two-match Test series in South Africa. He hasn’t reached a half-century in his last 11 Test innings, amassing just 158 runs.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Smashes His First Test Century In India
Following Iyer’s departure, debutant Rajat Patidar walked out to the middle. Rajat Patidar also got off to a good start, scoring 32 runs off 72 deliveries, including three boundaries. However, Patidar was dismissed in an unfortunate manner, falling victim to Rehan Ahmed.
The home team lost four wickets for 249 runs on the board. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who reached a century in the second session, continued to contribute to the team despite wickets falling at the other end. Team India hopes to end Day 1 without losing any further wickets.
