England opener Ben Duckett was once again not able to convert his decent start into a big score and was dismissed for 28 runs from 27 balls by Ravichandran Ashwin. This was Ashwin’s first wicket of the match and the whole credit of the wicket goes to wicketkeeper KS Bharat. The ball angled into Duckett which took the inside edge of his bat and later hit the pad.

KS Bharat had to put up a full-length dive to get in the catch. At last, the Indian wicket-keeper pulled off a blinder and Ashwin got Duckett’s wicket once again.

Before getting out Ben Duckett had added 50 runs for the first wicket along with Zak Crawley as England are chasing down 399 runs to win the second Test match against India.

This was Ravichandran Ashwin’s first wicket in the second Test match as he displayed a pretty odd performance in the first innings of the match and remained wicketless.

The Indian cricket team was wrapped up for 255 runs in their second innings, courtesy of a brilliant bowling performance from England. Shubman Gill was the highest run scorer for the Indian as he smashed the 3rd century of his Test career. Gill scored 104 runs from 147 balls and hit a total of 11 fours and 2 sixes during his stay at the crease. The hundred was an under-pressure one for Gill as he had just scored 160 runs from 10 Test innings ahead of the second Test match.

However, the start of Day 3 was not as India would have liked. India lost both their openers within two runs of their overnight score. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal were not able to add any runs to their score and got out for 13 and 17 runs respectively. Shubman Gill took charge after the fall of two quick wickets and added 81 runs off 112 balls for the 3rd wicket with Shreyas Iyer. Iyer once again showcased a flop show and got out for 29 runs. Rajat Patidar followed him and walked back to the dressing room for 9 runs.

While Shubman Gill completed his hundred, he also added 89 runs for the 5th wicket along with Axar Patel, who played some decent shots during his innings. Soon after the departure of Gill, the Indian lower order was not able to do much as Patel missed off a half-century and got out for 47 runs. R Ashwin scored 29 runs whereas the other batsmen got out for a duck, ending their innings at 255.

England were off to a decent start while chasing down 399 runs. At the end of Day 3, England finished at 67/1 in 14 overs, with Zak Crawley and Rehan Ahmed unbeaten on 29 and 9 runs respectively. The visitors still need 332 runs to win the match whereas the Indian bowlers will come out fresh on Day 4 and try to wrap up England as soon as possible.

The Indian team is currently 1-0 down in the five match series and will aim to level the score by winning the Vizag Test match.
