Indian skipper Rohit Sharma missed a rare catching opportunity during the ongoing second Test against England in Visakhapatnam. Rohit Sharma’s dropped catch allowed England skipper Ben Stokes a reprieve on the second day of the match between the two teams.

The Indian team posted a total of 396 runs after choosing to bat first at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a spectacular double century, while none of the other batters crossed the 50-run mark.

Jasprit Bumrah Running Through England Middle Order

In response, England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley added over 50 runs for the first wicket. Kuldeep Yadav broke the partnership by dismissing Duckett, who scored 21 runs off 17 deliveries. The English openers added 59 runs in 10.2 overs in the first innings.

Axar Patel got rid of Zak Crawley, who was playing comfortably against the Indian bowlers. Shreyas Iyer completed a running catch to dismiss Crawley, who scored 76 runs off 78 deliveries. Following Crawley’s dismissal, the visiting team lost wickets at regular intervals.

India’s pace bowling spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, ran through England’s middle order during the first innings. Bumrah demonstrated his reverse swing abilities and challenged both edges of the batters. The pacer dismissed Joe Root, Ollie Pope, and Jonny Bairstow.

The incident took place on the fifth ball of the 45th over of England’s first innings. Kuldeep Yadav induced a thick edge from Ben Stokes’s cut shot. Although Rohit Sharma managed to get his fingertips on it, the reaction time was minimal, leading to a missed opportunity.

The dropped catch didn’t prove costly for the home team, as Ben Stokes added just 23 runs after that. Bumrah dismissed Stokes for 47 runs, securing his fourth wicket in the innings. He went on to dismiss Tom Hartley, completing his five-wicket haul in the match.

Rohit Sharma Kept Sending Me Messages – Yashasvi Jaiswal

Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal credited his remarkable knock to skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid, acknowledging their encouragement to bat through the day. Jaiswal highlighted that he received messages from Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid.

“The wicket was damp in the morning, a bit settled in the afternoon and then when the ball got older it was spinning and they were getting the bounce. I was thinking of how to manage the shot selection just like Rohit bhai and Rahul bhai conveyed. They keep sending me messages that I need to convert it big and make sure that I am playing till the end. I tried to play as many balls as possible,” Jaiswal said on air after the day’s play.

Yashasvi Jaiswal hit his maiden double hundred, scoring 209 runs off 290 deliveries with the help of 19 boudnaries and seven sixes. James Anderson, Rehan Ahmed, and Shoaib Bashir picked up three wickets each, while Tom Hartley bagged one wicket for England.
