Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were unavailable for selection, while Shreyas Iyer was dropped from the squad. Former Indian skipper and head coach Anil Kumble presented the cap to Sarfraz. He became the 311th cricketer to represent the Indian team in the red-ball format.

The 26-year-old batter approached his emotional wife after receiving his debut cap. Sarfaraz gently wiped away her tears, creating a cherished memory for the Khan family. A user on X (formerly known as Twitter) shared a picture of the touching scene.

Young wicketkeeper batter Dhruv Jurel also earned his maiden India cap, replacing KS Bharat in the playing XI. Jurel has a strong first-class record, amassing 790 runs in 15 matches at an impressive average of 46.47, including one century and five half-centuries.

We Have To Keep Focusing – Rohit Sharma

At the toss, Rohit Sharma highlighted the importance of players stepping up when needed, expressing confidence in the team’s performance.

“We will bat first. We have made four changes to our team. Sarfaraz and Dhruv Jurel make their debuts, Siraj and Jadeja come back in. It is a good toss for us to win. Looks like a very good surface. Whenever we needed someone to stand up, they did and got the job done for the team. I think the next three matches are going to be very exciting. We have to keep focusing on what we can do here.” Rohit Sharma said during the toss.

The Indian team has made four changes to their playing XI from the previous red-ball match against England. Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Mohammed Siraj, and Ravindra Jadeja replaced Shreyas Iyer, KS Bharat, Mukesh Kumar, and Axar Patel in the starting lineup.
