"What's the point of playing those players?"- Rohit Sharma's message to Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer after series win vs England

Rohit Sharma and Co. were able to achieve a five-wicket win against England in the fourth Test match played in Ranchi. The hosts gained an unassailable lead in the five-match series and currently lead by 3-1.

Indian batsmen Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel added 72 runs for the sixth wicket and ensured that India won the match. Shubman remained unbeaten on 72 runs whereas, Jurel scored 39* runs.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma also smashed a half-century and added 84 runs from 105 balls for the first wicket along with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Rohit played a knock of 55 runs from 81 balls whereas Jaiswal scored 37 runs from 44 balls.

While speaking at the post-match press conference, Rohit Sharma was asked about the hunger of young cricketers willing to play Test cricket. Rohit gave a cryptic reply to the question and stated that the ones who don’t have the hunger to play Test cricket can be seen by looking at them then what is the need to play them?

Rohit Sharma’s takes a cryptic dig at players unwilling to play Test cricket

Rohit Sharma said, “Jinko Test Cricket ka bhook nehi hai, wo dekh k pata chal jata hai. ‘”, which meant, “You can tell by looking at those who are not hungry for Test cricket. What is the point of playing all of them?.”

It was unclear to whom did Rohit Sharma’s statement convey, but there have been many young cricketers who have been given a chance in the Indian Test side. Such include, Ishan Kishan, KS Bharat, Rajat Patidar, Mukesh Kumar, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, and Dhruv Jurel.

Many of these players were hyped due to which they earned a spot on the Test side, but didn’t impress with their performance and hence were excluded from the team. Ishan Kishan pulled out from the selection of India’s squad for the Test series against England.

On the other hand, Mukesh Kumar, KS Bharat, and Rajat Patidar have displayed a flop show in the Tests they have played so far. Players such as Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel showcased their talent and stood on the belief of the Indian management.

More than 3 players are battling for one spot in the Indian cricket team. There have been many instances on social media where the BCCI selectors are bashed by netizens for not giving a chance to deserving players. However, once they get a chance they are not able to meet the expectations and later are excluded from the squad.

Getting back to the IND vs ENG Test series, the Rohit Sharma-led side achieved their 17th consecutive Test series in India. This was the first time India were able to chase down a total of 150 or more runs in India after 2013, this was also the first instance where England lost a Test series under the reign of head coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes.

While India lead the series by 3-1, the fifth and final Test of the series will be played from March 7 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. The Indian team would be hoping to take the series 4-1.
