Cricketer-turned-commentator Wasim Jaffer feels that the T20 series win against the Indian team will be a great confidence booster for the West Indies cricket team. Wasim Jaffer highlighted that the Men in Blue are still a strong side despite the absence of some experienced players.

The Rovman Powell-led team defeated the Hardik Pandya-led team 3-2 in the five-match T20I series. The hosts began the series with consecutive wins but then faced back-to-back losses. However, they secured victory in the final match, marking their first series win against India since 2017.

It Will Be A Huge Confidence Booster – Wasim Jaffer

In a post-match discussion on ESPNcricinfo, Wasim Jaffer opened up about the Windies team series victory against the Indian team.

“It will be a huge confidence booster without a doubt for what the West Indies cricket team or these players have gone through in a year and a half in the 20 format as well as not qualifying for the 50-over, which is a great setback for them. But I think it will lift the spirits of the players by beating this Indian side, even though whoever is not available. The Indian side is always pretty strong, and this team was strong,” Jaffer told ESPNCricinfo.

The home team secured an 8-wicket victory in the final match held in Lauderhill, Florida, on Sunday, August 13. Opener Brendon King was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding unbeaten knock of 85 runs while successfully chasing down the target of 166.

The Good Old Days Can Come Back – Wasim Jaffer

Wasim Jaffer believes this win will provide significant confidence ahead of the World Cup, which is scheduled to be played in the Caribbean Islands and the USA.

“I feel this will lift their confidence and make them believe that the good old days can come back. It’s still a long way to go, but at least it’ll give them a lot of confidence going ahead. In 10 months time they’re going to play the World Cup in West Indies and America. At least it’ll make them feel a lot more confident,” he concluded.

The Men in Maroon failed to make it into the top 12 in the T20 World Cup 2022 and missed the qualification for the ODI World Cup. However, they automatically qualify for next year’s T20 World Cup as the host nation.
