IND vs BAN: "Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli And Me… All Of Our Averages Have Gone Down Because..."- Ajinkya Rahane

Indian Cricket Team’s dashing batter Ajinkya Rahane has been finding it tough to make it to the national team. The batter played his last Test match against South Africa in January 2022. The former vice-captain has been criticized for his slow batting approach and his last Test ton came against Australia in 2020.
Rahane currently is playing for Mumbai Team in the Ranji Trophy. The 34-year-old batter struck a double century against Hyderabad and is looking ominous. BCCI is yet to name the selection panel and it would be interesting to see whether he gets a chance in the upcoming Border- Gavaskar Trophy 2023

Ajinkya Rahane On Pitches
Ajinkya Rahane was having an interaction with the reporters after smashing a double century against Hyderabad and was asked about playing for India again. “One thing is for sure, I will never give up. For me, the dream is to still play for India. If we look at the averages, they have gone down because of the wickets, because as a batter, it is always challenging. For openers, it is easy, especially in India when the ball is hard. When batters get out, we always think about the mistakes they are committing.” said Ajinkya Rahane.

“But then No. 3-4-5—Pujara, Virat, and me… all of our averages have gone down. So, I don’t think I was committing any mistakes. Yes, as a player, I always focus on where to improve, but every time we don’t commit mistakes, sometimes the wickets are such…it’s not an excuse, but that’s the reality. Everyone was watching, so they know what kind of wickets were prepared in India,” he added.
Crucial Series for India
The Men in Blue have a strenuous task on their hands as defeating Australia won’t be easy by any means. India has to make sure that they clinch the series by 3-0 or 3-1 to stake a claim in the World Test Championship (WTC 2021-23) final. Australia is going to play Test Series in India after a span of 6 years we can expect a riveting contest.
There are chances that Sarfaraz Khan may get a chance against the Aussies as he has been piling on runs. The new selection panel will have to make sure that they are giving ample opportunities to youngsters. It would be interesting to see whether the trio: Rahane, Pujara & Kohli would be seen together as they are not only immensely experienced but are big match players.
