The third and final One-Day International (ODI) between India and New Zealand at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Wednesday, November 30, was called off due to rain, resulting in the Blackcaps winning the series 1-0. Shreyas Iyer played a knock of 49 runs in 59 deliveries to help Men in Blue post a respectable total. Chasing 220 runs, the hosts scored 104/1 in 18 overs when rain interrupted.

Shreyas Iyer played a brilliant 80 off 76 balls in the first match and was in complete control during his half-century. He batted very well in the third ODI until he was dismissed. Concerns remain about his short-ball woes, but his consistency cannot be ignored. Iyer scored 129 runs in two innings at an average of 64.50 with a strike rate of 95.55 in two innings.

We All Need To Understand That All Formats Are Different – Aakash Chopra

“The biggest learning in my opinion was Shreyas Iyer in ODI cricket, he is a different beast. Honestly speaking, I feel we all need to understand that all formats are different. So don’t measure all formats in the same way, every player is different and Shreyas Iyer in ODI cricket is dynamite,” Aakash Chopra said.

Shreyas Iyer Is Just Sensational In Odi Cricket – Aakash Chopra

Chopra stated that the common perception is that Iyer is vulnerable to bouncers and swinging or seaming deliveries. He went on to say that the Kolkata captain overcame those difficulties when playing 50-over cricket.

“You feel that he gets slightly stuck when you do short-pitched bowling against him or if the ball is moving a lot, his playing style is like that, he looks a little loose, although he has a century on debut in Tests.”

“Which guy can be so consistent in ODI cricket or any form of cricket if we talk about New Zealand? This guy is consistent. If we keep the T20Is aside, in ODI cricket, he is just sensational. He consistently scores runs, gets troubled by the short ball, but he manages it in ODIs. We have seen him get stuck many times in T20 cricket.”

Shreyas Iyer represented India in 36 One-Day Internationals and he scored 1428 runs at an excellent average of 49.24 and a strike rate of 98.21 in 32 innings, including two centuries and 13 half-centuries.
