IND vs BAN: "He Has Always Found Ways To Get Runs": KL Rahul On Virat Kohli's 'Poor' Test Form

KL Rahul, who will captain Team India in the first Test against Bangladesh in Rohit Sharma’s absence, has expressed scepticism over Virat Kohli’s red-ball record. According to Rahul, India hasn’t played enough Tests in 2022 for anyone to comment on the ace batter’s form.

Kohli played four Tests in 2022, scoring 220 runs at an average of 31.42. In the rescheduled Test in Birmingham in July, he was dismissed for 11 and 20. However, has recently shown good form in white-ball cricket, striking a century in both T20Is and ODIs.

KL Rahul was questioned about if Kohli’s subpar red-ball performance was a concern at a press conference prior to the two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

The acting captain responded: “I don’t think we’ve played enough Test cricket for you to pass that judgment, frankly. He’s been in great shape and performed admirably for us in T20 cricket. He recently defeated Bangladesh here and scored a hundred. He will undoubtedly carry some assurance into the Test matches as well.”

KL Rahul backed Kohli to perform well in the Test matches, saying: “He’s been around for so long. He is such an experienced player; he knows what to do. His mindset and attitude have always remained the same.

“The passion he has for the game, and the commitment he gives to the team, have been on the show for everyone to see. He’s a great player. He has always found ways to get runs and I am sure he will do that again.”

KL Rahul also conceded that India will miss the skills of skipper Rohit Sharma, who is recovering from a thumb injury. He also stated that the squad is hopeful that the skipper would be able to play in the second Test.

“Obviously, Rohit Sharma is a key player for us.” He’s the captain and has a lot of experience. When a captain is injured, the team suffers a significant loss. We’re crossing our fingers that he’ll be able to return for the second Test.”

After hurting himself while fielding in the previous game, Rohit was forced to miss the third ODI of the series against Bangladesh. He is not expected to participate in the first Test, which starts on December 14, but there is some doubt over whether he will be able to take the second Test as well.
