Team India are touring Bangladesh for a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series and a two-match Test series. Rohit Sharma will return to the captaincy after taking a break as India take on Bangladesh in the first ODI of the three-match series on Sunday, December 4 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

India’s performance in the T20 World Cup 2022 was below par, and many say the team’s approach to white-ball cricket needs to change. While split captaincy is not a popular concept in Indian cricket, given the amount of cricket played these days, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may consider it in the future.

Hardik Pandya Has The Cricketing Brain – Maninder Singh

Maninder Singh believes that red-ball and white-ball captains should be different. The former Indian cricketer feels that Hardik Pandya should lead in white-ball cricket given his success as IPL captain.

“Yes I feel you can have different captains for Test matches and white-ball cricket. Hardik Pandya, the way he handled his IPL team, it’s the reason why he was given the T20I captaincy against New Zealand, he has the material.

“There was a time when I used to think Hardik Pandya was just a happy-go-lucky kind of guy who just goes on to the field and enjoys his cricket, but the way he handled Gujarat Titans, showed he has that cricketing brain as well which would help Indian cricket.”

“So for white-ball cricket, I would really give it to him because whenever he talks after the matches, at the post-match presentation ceremonies, he looks like the person who could give us the change of approach which we need in T20Is and white-ball cricket. So I would hand over the white-ball captaincy to him.”

Hardik Pandya led the Gujarat Titans (GT) to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 trophy in the franchise’s maiden season despite being the captain for the first time in the tournament. His exploits with the IPL franchise rewarded him with the opportunity to lead the national team. Earlier this year, he guided the Men in Blue to a 2-0 series win over Ireland. The team won the three-match T20 series against the Kiwis by 1-0.
