Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik thinks Cheteshwar Pujara’s decision to forego the domestic one-day tournament benefited the player.

India knocked the hosts out for 324 on the final day of the Test after defending a massive 513-run goal. However, KL Rahul’s team finally put an end to the hosts’ resistance in the first session of the final day. Bangladesh put on a valiant performance in the second innings, batting out a full fourth day to confound the Indian bowling attack.

Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara excelled in both innings, following up a tough 90 in the first with his 19th Test century. India had scored impressive scores of 404 and 258/2 throughout the two innings. His sustained performance in the first Test earned him the title of player of the game.

“Cheteshwar Pujara tends to practice there to hone his skills”: Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik praised the Indian player’s dedication after the latter gave an outstanding performance in the first Test match against Bangladesh.

“In Rajkot, there is a lot more red soil wicket, so it’s really different to what he was going to get in Bangladesh. He has played on such surfaces. He understands what it takes to succeed on this pitch. I’ll give Pujara credit; he played T20s for Saurashtra before opting out of Vijay Hazare. He chose not to participate in the one-day format. He chose to train for this, and you could see why,” Karthik remarked on Cricbuzz.

“Obviously, he’ll need to get into the Test mindset. He understands this Test series has to be counted, therefore he did it. He was ready for it. He spends a lot of time practicing with his father. His father has established a practice center where individuals can practice for free.”

“Pujara frequently practices there to develop his abilities. He has made a concerted effort for it in this series, and the results are visible. “You have to prepare thoroughly, and Pujara is a wonderful example of that,” Karthik added.

Team India will play the second Test of the series on December 22 in Dhaka.
