Wasim Jaffer thinks that Team India’s top-order batters Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli should try to take advantage of the Chattogram pitching circumstances that are conducive to batting in order to get back in the scoring.

With the exception of an inspiring unbeaten fifty by an injured Rohit Sharma in the second ODI, the visiting top order has so far scarcely been seen on the tour.

Virat Kohli And Shikhar Dhawan Still Without Double Digit Score In Bangladesh Series

Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli are still without a double-digit score, and the manner of their dismissals has raised questions. The problems with the top order have been caused by a combination of misfired shots, bizarre dismissals, and most importantly, a hesitant attitude.

The combination of Rohit, Kohli, and Dhawan was previously thought to be able to annihilate opponents at will. However, their recent ODI statistics have not been encouraging, particularly with the World Cup drawing near. It is urgent to make changes to the conspicuous shortage of partnerships and large scores.

It’s High Time That Virat Kohli And Shikhar Dhawan Start Scoring Hundreds: Wasim Jaffer

The third ODI seems like a wonderful opportunity for Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan to start getting hundreds. Jaffer told ESPN Cricinfo:

“I think it is high time that the top three, especially Kohli and Dhawan start scoring hundreds, because we know their potential.”

Jaffer continued:As I said earlier, the wicket in Chattogram will be good, so I am expecting hundreds from both Kohli and Dhawan.”

While Dhawan last scored the triple digits against Australia at the 2019 ODI World Cup, Kohli’s last ODI century was against the West Indies in 2019. However, it should be remembered that since his last hundred in the 50-over format, the southpaw has been dismissed three times in the nineties.

It has been challenging for the renowned top three of Rohit, Kohli, and Dhawan to keep up their form and amass runs as they did in their heyday. Time may be running out for the trio because other top-order hitters are sitting on the sidelines following their successes in domestic cricket.

Middle Order Getting Better, Top Order Struggling: Wasim Jaffer

Jaffer commented on the trio’s recent lack of hundreds and their deterioration over time.

“Hopefully, we get to see hundreds from both Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan. When we look at the time around the 2019 World Cup, we were too reliant on our top three batters, and the middle order was not responding well at that time.”

Jaffer added: “Now the situation has changed and it is quite different. If we look at the last 50-60 matches, there is only one century from our top three batters and our middle order has performed well.”

It was Rohit’s century during the home ODI series against Australia in January 2020 that was in dispute. This was Team India’s last overseas task prior to the COVID-19 epidemic.

In an effort to avert a 3-0 rout, the Men in Blue will take on Bangladesh in the third one-day international. On Saturday, December 10, the competition is planned to take place in Chattogram.
