IND vs BAN “If Rohit Sharma Comes In, KL Rahul Has To Make A Way” – Wasim Jaffer

Former India National Cricket Team opening batsman Wasim Jaffer has stated that KL Rahul will have to make way for Rohit Sharma in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, which will start in February and will be played across 4 different venues in Nagpur, Delhi, Dharamsala and Ahmedabad.

KL Rahul, who led India to triumph in the Test series against Bangladesh, faced heavy criticism for his poor performance in the series. In the first Test match, he registered scores of 22 & 23 and in the second Test match, he registered scores of 10 & 2. Overall, Rahul scored only 137 runs in four Test matches in 2022 at an average of 17.13.

Speaking on ESPNcricinfo, Jaffer said that Rahul will be benched in Test cricket when Rohit returns to the team. He also hinted that Shubman Gill might open the innings alongside skipper Rohit.

“KL Rahul has to go without a doubt, in my opinion. He had a pretty ordinary series as a batsman. If Rohit comes in, KL has to make a way,” Jaffer said while speaking on ESPNCricinfo.

I expected Shubman Gill to come out and play his shots – Wasim Jaffer

Former India National Cricket Team opening batsman further criticised Rahul and Shubman Gill for their defensive batting approach while chasing a small 145-run target in the second Test.

“I expected Shubman Gill to come out and play his shots. That’s what he did in the first innings. In the second innings, he’ll probably be even more attacking or aggressive, even KL, he had a disappointing series, so I thought he’ll come out and play his usual self which we’ve seen him before, but that didn’t happen,” Jafar said.

“You put spinners on top, runs are not going to come easy anyway when you play defensively. The approach was pretty defensive,” Jaffer added further.
