Virat Kohli recorded his second single-digit score in the series against Bangladesh. The former India captain has had a poor year in Test cricket, and it ended on an even poorer note against the Tigers. Kohli started the year with a 1–2 series loss as captain against South Africa, relinquishing the captaincy role in the longer format of the game.

Virat Kohli ended his century drought and regained his form in white-ball cricket, but his struggles in Test matches continued, scoring 265 runs in six Test matches at an average of 26.50 with only one half-century in 2022. The veteran Indian hitter has not scored a Test century Since November 2019. Kohli returned with scores of 1, 19, 24, and 1 in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

Virat Kohli has only had his lowest Test numbers in a calendar year twice in his career. Kohli scored 116 runs at an average of 19.33 in the three Tests he played for India in 2020, after cricket resumed in the post-Covid era. Kohli prolonged his century-less run in Tests; he completed his 2022 season by setting another record for the lowest, emulating his horror run in England in 2014.

Kohli’s average dropped below 49 to 48.90 in 177 innings, his third-lowest since the start of his Test career. Kohli played a knock of 79 runs against the Proteas in Cape Town, his first and only half-century of 2022. Kohli scored 45 in his 100th Test in Mohali against Sri Lanka before scoring 11 and 20 against England in the rescheduled fifth Test.

However, Virat Kohli demonstrated his return to form and ended his three-year drought of international centuries against Afghanistan during the Asia Cup match in September. After that, Kohli batted well in limited overs and dominated the T20 World Cup. He smashed a 91-ball 113 to end a 1214-day drought for his 44th ODI century during the ODI series against Bangladesh.
