India bowled out Bangladesh for just 227 runs on the first day of the 2nd Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Thursday, December 22. Umesh Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin took one wicket each, while Jaydev Unadkat, who played his second test match after 12 years, took two wickets. Mominul Haque batted brilliantly for 84 runs before being dismissed by Ashwin.
Taijul Islam has been the standout bowler for Bangladesh and dismissed India’s top three batsmen for low scores in the first session. Meanwhile, Taskin Ahmed had taken the wicket of Virat Kohli for 24 runs. Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer added a crucial partnership of 159 runs and helped India recover from early wickets.

Iyer and Pant started with a counter-attack and then maintained the run rate to take India past Bangladesh’s total. Pant eventually got out for 93 off 104 balls, the sixth time in his career he has fallen into the 90s. Pant pushed at Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s full-length delivery and got an outside edge before the ball reached Nurul.
First Bangladesh Bowler To Pick 650 International Wickets
After tea, India lost six wickets for 90 runs, and Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan bowled an outstanding spell to restrict the Indians to just over 300 runs. India scored 295 runs in 78.3 overs after resuming at 19 for no loss. Iyer was dismissed for 87 runs off 105 balls, missing out on a century for the second time in this Test series.
Shakib Al Hasan took four wickets for 79 runs, dismissing Axar Patel, Shreyas Iyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Mohammad Siraj as India were bowled out for 314 runs. With the dismissal of Ravichandran, the left-arm spinner became the first Bangladeshi bowler to reach 650 international wickets. Overall, he was the 20th bowler to reach the match.
