Sunil Gavaskar, one of the greatest cricketers of all time, is a huge fan of Arsene Wenger, the former head coach of English Premier League club Arsenal. He recently travelled to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup final, where he met Arsene Wenger.

Gavaskar mentioned in his Instagram post that he was excited to meet Arsene Wenger and also shared a photo with the great. After the first day of the second Test between India and Bangladesh on Sony Sports Network, the Indian batting legend was discussing the picture and stated that he is an Arsenal fan because of Thierry Henry.

I Used To Tease My Son – Sunil Gavaskar

Gavaskar stated that he had always been a fan of Arsenal, the English Premier League club. In the same conversation, he revealed that he teases his son Rohan, a die-hard Manchester United fan.

“I’ve been an Arsenal follower – I won’t say a fan so much – been a follower for a long time. I used to tease my son who is a Manchester United fan that I am an Arsenal fan and he would ask ‘Tell me 4 names from the Arsenal team’. I would say Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp,” Gavaskar said.

“Even Arsene Wenger is an uncanny lookalike of my hero ML Jaisimha, so that’s an additional factor. Henry was someone who I really admired watching and he also has signed a shirt for me,” he added.

Gavaskar revealed that he managed to get a signed jersey of the Arsenal and France legend Thierry Henry, but that was with Sourav Ganguly. He issued a hilarious threat to the former Indian captain to return his jersey to him when he visits Kolkata for the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka on January 12, 2023.

“Sourav Ganguly… hello? Where is that shirt? I am coming to Kolkata for the game on the 12th and Sourav, you better this time – I don’t want any excuses. You are no longer the BCCI president. You have a little more time on your hands. Find that shirt which Henry had signed for me and please give it to me when I come there on the 12th,” added Gavaskar.

Sourav Ganguly and Sunil Gavaskar are two legends of Indian cricket. Both are iconic opening batters with 10,000 runs in ODIs and Tests, respectively, and they even share the same initials. Both players scored a double century in their 99th Test, 24 years after Ganguly’s first and only Test double century.
