David Lloyd, a former England cricketer, emphasised that India has the ability to play Test cricket like Ben Stokes and company have. The 75-year-old believes that former skipper Virat Kohli can lead this approach.

Under captain Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum, England’s red-ball cricket has undergone a significant transformation. They have won seven of their last eight Test matches thanks to the “Bazball” strategy, including a well-known victory over Pakistan on Monday, December 5 in Rawalpindi.

India Have All The Tools: David Lloyd

Although England’s strategies are nothing new, Lloyd noted in his Daily Mail column that he believes Men in Blue are another team that may use such tactics. The reputable commentator said:

“It is not totally new, of course. The Australian team of the 90s were very positive and the great West Indian sides were full of exhilarating stroke-makers. I reckon a team capable of this style now is India. They have all the tools. There has been a suspicion that Indian batters are stats driven but Virat Kohli is one who could drive this.”

England kept up a scoring pace of 6.50 in the first innings of the first Test match against Pakistan in Rawalpindi, and then 7.36 in the second. Furthermore, Stokes made an audacious declaration, giving the hosts more than a day to win with a 343-point margin.

Babar Azam and company were defeated at 268 all out, giving up the series lead.

Pakistan Were Spooked By That Declaration From Ben Stokes: David Lloyd

Further, Lloyd stated that Pakistan played effectively before ultimately losing their footing since they did not anticipate Stokes’ declaration. He added:

“I think Pakistan were spooked by that declaration from Stokes. The onus was on them to go for it and they did show positive intent for a large part of their chase but towards the end I’m not sure whether they knew whether they knew whether to stick or twist. I don’t think anyone expected Stokes to call England in at tea on the fourth day, certainly not Babar Azam.”

The second Test will begin on 9th December in Multan.
