Jonny Bairstow and Virat Kohli had a heated argument during the first session on Day 3 before the umpires had to jump in and bring the altercation to an end.

The two sorted it out soon after, with Kohli even giving a friendly punch on Bairstow’s shoulders to signal an end to it. Speaking about the incident, Bairstow said there was absolutely nothing in it.

Refused to invite him for dinner. As I mentioned earlier, there was literally nothing. We’ve been fortunate to play against each other for ten years. So, I’m pretty sure we’ll be able to have dinner. Don’t worry about it,” Bairstow said after the day’s play.

“It was a great crack out there” – Jonny Bairstow

Bairstow smashed a stunning hundred, his 11th in Tests and third on the trot to breathe some life back into the game after England was down in the dumps in response to India’s first innings total of 416.

We’re very lucky to be out there playing because that’s why we play the game, isn’t it? Two very competitive people out on the field doing what they love. And that’s why we play the game. You’ve got 11 guys on each side that are very passionate to do so well for their country.”

And yeah, look, it’s passion, it’s what you play for … So, I hope that clears it up but, look, it was a great crack out there, and to be playing against a fantastic team in India is, is always going to be tough. And like I said, you’ve got to absorb those tough periods of time and try and shift and wrestle momentum back at others,” he added.

Eventually, England folded up for 284, conceding a 132-run lead. India then reached 125/3 at the end of the day’s play.
