Rishabh Pant of India is now the youngest wicketkeeper-batter in Test cricket history to attain the milestone of 2,000 runs.

During the fifth and final Test against England on Friday at Edgbaston, Pant, 24, accomplished this milestone.

The famous Indian keeper-batter reached the milestone thanks to a four through the midwicket region in the 51st over, bowled by bowler Matty Potts.

Due to a 222-run partnership between Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja, India crossed the 300-run mark which at one point looked out of reach.  India was in trouble at 98-5 when the pair came together. Pant got out for 146 in trying to hit Joe Root for a boundary after hitting him for a boundary a ball before. He edged the ball to slips. He was not really to the pitch of the ball and hence the ball took the outside edge and Zak Crawley did not make a mistake.

Hanuma Vihari and Virat Kohli resumed the innings at 53/2 after lunch, adding eleven more runs to their stand before Vihari was out for 20 after being caught in his crease by bowler Matty Potts as he was out LBW.

Rishabh Pant then arrived at the crease. Soon, Kohli was also back to the pavilion. At 11 runs. Then Shreyas Iyer entered the crease, looked sharp, and hit Potts for three fours. He was however caught by wicketkeeper Sam Billings on the bowling of James Anderson for 15 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja, the all-arounder, entered the field next. The pair of Jadeja and Pant then established a strong alliance. They consistently ran hard between the wickets and occasionally went for big shots. In the 37th over, Pant struck spinner, Jack Leach, for 4, 4, and 6, giving the innings new life. Pant continued to hit the English bowlers as he hit his 5th Test century in just 89 balls.
