ENG vs IND: Twitter Reacts As Rishabh Pant Hits His First Century In ODIs

Rishabh Pant’s place on the ODI side has been under constant scrutiny in recent times. In ODIs he has not hit a hundred until Sunday when he registered his first century in international cricket against England in difficult circumstances.

This is his 2nd century on the tour after he hit a century in the 5th Test. This innings came in special circumstances as he walked in at no. 4 yet again with both Indian openers gone. Virat Kohli too departed for a low score and India was 38-3 in a chase of 261.

Suryakumar Yadav and he then tried to put things back on track but Surya too departed soon. Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant then took the innings forward as they stitched together a partnership of 133 runs.

In the decider, Pant played one of the best innings in ODIs for India in over 3 years. Since the start of 2020, only KL Rahul had hit a century in ODIs for India. That too came against England in 2021. After that, no other batter had reached 3 figures for India.

Pant’s century helped India win the ODI series by 2-1. He celebrated his century by scoring 6 boundaries against in his last 7 balls. It included 5 4s in a row against David Willey. Then he hit the winning 4 against Joe Root by reverse sweeping him.

Earlier Pandya registered his best figure in ODIs to help India restrict England to 259. England was bowled out thrice in the series for the first time in 7 years. England could not play their 50 overs even once in the 3 ODIs.

Pant really paced his innings quite well today. Reached his fifty in 71 balls, and then changed gears to add his next fifty in 35 balls.

Hopefully, today's innings, allows him to understand how to set up a tempo in ODIs.
