Before the second ODI encounter against India at Lord’s on Thursday, former England white-ball captain Eoin Morgan urges Jos Buttler to send a strong message in the dressing room.

Jos Buttler has lost the T20I series 1-2 and the opening ODI of the current 50-over series against India since taking over as England’s full-time skipper in limited overs cricket.

Eoin Morgan, who guided England to World Cup victory in 2019, emphasized the significance of conveying a clear message to the players. Buttler has lost the first ODI in the ongoing 50-over series as well as the T20I series 1-2 after assuming the role of full-time captain.

“Even the most effective message will not be effective if the recipient is not paying attention. However, I can assure you that everyone in the locker room pays attention when you lose. In situations like this, it is vital for your leader to provide a clear message and for your senior players to model it.”

‘I know what this feels like’: Eoin Morgan

India defeated England by a margin of 10 wickets in the opening ODI at London’s Kennington Oval. Jasprit Bumrah took 6/19, and England was bowled out for just 110 before Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan gave India a 1-0 series lead.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Eoin Morgan stated, “I know how this feels.” You concentrate on yourself instead of others, which is not nice. Jos, though, will use this as an opportunity to reiterate a very clear and powerful message about where they are headed and what they are doing in that changing room because of his prior playing and leading experience.”

“People will be flinching and looking for an out in that changing room, but that is the time to lead” Eoin Morgan Added.

Jason Roy, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Liam Livingstone, among others, were all deemed to be duds. With a score of 30, England’s captain Buttler nearly avoided posting their lowest-ever ODI total.
