The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has decided to release three players – Harry Brook, Phil Salt and Matt Parkinson – from the ODI squad ahead of the third match against India so that the players can be available for selection for their counties on the T20 Blast Finals Day at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Saturday.

The final and semi-finals of the T20 Blast will be played on the same day at Edgbaston, Birmingham and several players will miss the games due to the third and final ODI match of the series between India and England.

The third ODI of the three-match series between Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and Jos Buttler-led England National Cricket Team will be played on Sunday at Old Trafford, Manchester. Notably, the ODI match will begin barely 12 hours after the T20 Blast final.

As a result, six players including the likes of Lancashire’s Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone, Somerset’s Craig Overton, and Yorkshire’s Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, and David Willey have all been ruled out of the Finals Day.

In an official statement released by the England and Wales Cricket Board, it was stated that Brook, Salt and Parkinson will travel to Edgbaston to join their respective counties, but they will return to Manchester for the third ODI against India and will be available for selection.

“The trio will travel to Edgbaston today to join their respective counties before returning to the England squad ahead of the third Royal London International at Emirates Old Trafford on Sunday,” the ECB said in a statement.

David Willey’s absence from the Finals Day is a major blow to Yorkshire as he is their T20 captain. Also, Willey has already signed a four-year deal with Northants from the end of this season and the quarter-final game against Surrey, last week, was most likely his last game for Yorkshire.

Meanwhile, the three-match ODI series between India and England is levelled at 1-1 after India won the first game by 10 wickets and England won the second game by 100 runs.
