Former England spinner Ashley Giles has said that he doesn’t think senior India batter Virat Kohli’s place in the T20I team is under threat as of now despite his continuous failures.

Virat Kohli, who has been going through a lean patch for an extended period of time, in the second T20I against England, scored only 1 run off 3 balls, before being dismissed by Richard Gleeson. In the third T20I, the 33-year-old scored 11 runs off 6 balls, including 1 four and 1 six, before being dismissed by David Willey.

“Personally, I don’t think Kohli’s place is under threat. I don’t pick sides, but he’s world-class. He’s got a proven track record. One of the best players.”

The 27-year-old batter Deepak Hooda, who has been in red-hot form recently, was dropped from the playing XI to include Virat Kohli in the team.

Meanwhile, Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla said that Kohli has got a great record and he is just one innings away from getting his form back. He added that there is no comparison between Hooda and Kohli and the latter deserves to remain the first choice No.3 batter. He elaborated:

“Kohli is somebody who has got a great record. You don’t go on present form because it can happen to anyone and he’s somebody who is just one good innings away. He’ll get that good innings under his belt and will be back in form.

“Hooda has only played three to four games at international level. In the World Cup, you need experience. Can’t compare Hooda and Kohli. Kohli walks into the playing XI straight away.”
