Parthiv Patel, a former India wicketkeeper, believes that top bowler Mohammed Shami can guarantee a spot in the 2019 T20 World Cup. Since India’s failure to go to the semifinals in the T20 World Cup in 2021, Shami has not represented India in the shortest format. He recently made a comeback to India’s white-ball system in the ODI series against England, taking three wickets in the opening game.
The 31-year-old bowler had a superb session with the new ball, taking key wickets of Ben Stokes during the powerplay and Jos Buttler and Craig Overton after resuming play. With three wickets, Shami surpasses the previous record for fastest Indian to 150 ODI wickets. In 80 games, he won the feat.

Mohammed Shami Got Opportuity To Showcase His Death Over Bowling Skills: Parthiv Patel
As India defeated England for just 110, his bowling partner Jasprit Bumrah had his best career stats of 6/19. Opening pair Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan assisted the team in achieving a 10-wicket victory while chasing the mark.

As India hasn’t decided on their third bowling option, Patel believes Shami has a chance during the current ODI series to establish himself for the T20 WC.
“He has a good opportunity in this ODI series to show that he can bowl in the death overs. He could vouch for his spot in the T20 World Cup. India already have Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah, and if you get the quality and experience of Shami, it will make a huge difference,” Patel told Cricbuzz.
Parthiv Patel Surprised As To Why Mohammed Shami Is Not Seen As A T20 Bowler
His bowling partner Jasprit Bumrah recorded his best career figures of 6/19 as India trounced England for just 110. While chasing the target, the opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan helped the side to a 10-wicket victory.

Patel thinks Shami has an opportunity during the current ODI series to prove himself for the T20 WC because India hasn’t chosen their third bowling option.
“I am surprised as to why he is not seen as a T20 bowler. The way he bowled for Gujarat Titans, he claimed a wicket in the first over on so many occasions. Earlier it was said that he cannot bowl in the death overs, but he has been doing that pretty well for Gujarat and Punjab,” he added.
