One of India’s most productive opening combinations in short overs cricket is Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, who are anticipated to start the first ODI against England on Tuesday. Due in major part to Dhawan losing his spot in the T20I team and India playing fewer ODIs, the two haven’t recently frequently played together.

The two formed a fearsome top three with a rampaging Virat Kohli at No. 3 and were among the best openers in limited-overs cricket for the greater part of a decade. In one-day international matches, Rohit and Dhawan are India’s second-most successful opening pair, after only batting legends Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.

Also, Rohit and Dhawan need just six more runs to pass the Second Indian opening duo to reach 5000 runs. Dhawan and Rohit have amassed 4994 runs in 111 innings, compared to Ganguly and Tendulkar’s 6609 runs in 136 innings.

Additionally, they would pass the famed West Indies opening duo of Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes (5150 runs in 102 innings), Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden to become the fourth player to reach the milestone overall (5472 runs in 114 innings).

The only openers with more century stands than Rohit and Dhawan are Ganguly and Tendulkar. Additionally, they have the most successful opening pair in the annals of ODI cricket.
