Former England National Cricket Team off-spinner Graeme Swann has said that he loved the senior India batter Virat Kohli’s approach in the third and final T20I match of the series against England at the Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

Kohli adopted India’s fresh aggressive approach in the third T20I against England, smashing a couple of amazing-looking boundaries, before being dismissed by David Willey. He scored 11 runs off 6 balls, including one four and one six.

Speaking after the match, Swann said that Kohli was desperate to score runs at a quick rate for India while chasing the humongous 216 runs target. He also said that on some other day, Kohli would have got a boundary off the ball he got dismissed.

“I loved the way Virat Kohli came out, desperate to take the attack to the England bowlers. He hit a four and a six and on another day the ball he got out to would have flown to the boundary. He is just in horror form where he can’t catch a break,” Swann was quoted as saying after the match.

Don’t think you can have a go at the Indian top order for trying to take advantage of the powerplay – Graeme Swann

While chasing the target, India’s top-3 batters – Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli – played rash shots and got out and India were reduced to 31/3 at the end of five overs.

Meanwhile, Swann feels that the top-order batters shouldn’t be criticised for their approach as they were trying to take the advantage of the powerplay while chasing the humongous target.

“Let’s face it, in isolation, these are terrible dismissals. But I don’t think you can have a go at the Indian top order for trying to take advantage of the powerplay when you are chasing more than 210. Had they been 30 for none or 40 for one in six overs, they would have lost the game. They would have ended up very short,” he added.

India lost the third T20I by 17 runs despite Suryakumar Yadav’s sensational century, but the dominant victories in the first two games ensured India a series victory by 2-1.
