India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah said the wicket provided swing and seam movement, and he and Mohammed Shami decided to take advantage of it by bowling Test match lengths.

The pacer’s first-inning effort, which came after India won the toss and captain Rohit Sharma chose to bowl first, was a crucial factor in India’s 10-wicket triumph over England on July 12.

Nine wickets were shared by Bumrah and Shami, with the former taking six and the latter scooping up three during his course. In addition to the other nine wickets, speedster Prasidh Krishna also claimed the tenth one.

For the quick bowlers, it was undoubtedly a day to remember. In response, Indian openers raced down the score to win the match without taking a wicket as England was routed for 110 runs.

The opening pair of Rohit Sharma (76*) and Shikhar Dhawan (31*) never gave the English team a chance to remove them from the crease and guided India to the finish line with more than 32 overs to spare by ten wickets. The 111-run chase was a piece of cake for India.

“When we play together, communication is always present. Even today, the pitch offered both swing and seam. I spoke with him about what we might do to put our squad in the best possible situation. When you and your partner complement one another, it feels fantastic,” he added.

Bumrah claimed that he does not evaluate his effectiveness on outcomes because he has had days when his bowling was far better but he was unable to take any wickets.

“I make an effort to maintain mental balance and refrain from planning too far in advance. Yes, it was a nice day, but the next day has to be completely different,” he maintained.
