Edgbaston, England

India vs England Weather Forecast And Pitch Report, India Tour Of England 2022, 2nd T20I. India will take on England in the second T20I at the Edgbaston cricket ground in Birmingham on Saturday (July 9). The visitors do not have a great record at Edgbaston whether it is Test or T20I with a no-win record at this venue haunting them.

England has played 3 T20I matches at Edgbaston for an all-win record. The two teams have faced each other in T20Is once at this venue, and England emerged a 3-run winner in 2014.

Hardik Pandya put in all-around performance as India defeated England by 50 runs in the first T20I at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Chasing a target of 199, England was bowled out for 148 in 19.3 overs. Hardik Pandya was the pick of the bowlers, having bagged four wickets.

Earlier, Hardik Pandya hit his maiden T20I fifty as India scored a total of 198 for eight. Hardik Pandya scored a 51 after Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda had played knocks of 39 and 33. For England, Chris Jordan was the pick of the bowlers with his spell of two for 23.

England is missing several of their first-choice players but they have an excellent depth with respect to white-ball cricket, only second to the visitors. They are surely not going to change their approach but they got to find a way to score runs against Indian new ball bowlers who are of top quality, to say the least.

England came back pretty strongly in the second half of their bowling innings as the visitors could have crossed 200 rather easily given their start but their spinners held their nerves against the Indian middle-order batsmen. Pacer Chris Jordan bowled really well and had one of his rare good days in the first game.

England is likely to go in with the same team in the 2nd T20I. They have no injury concerns and since their bowlers did a fairly reasonable job, they wouldn’t be changing their bowling combination. England might look to push Liam Livingstone down the order as he is better at handling pace than Moeen Ali.

1st T20I:- India 198 for 8 (Hardik 51, Suryakumar 39, Hooda 33) beat England 148 (Moeen 36, Hardik 4-33) by 50 runs

Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja will be back for India after being rested for the first T20I. Virat Kohli will probably have to open the batting alongside skipper Rohit Sharma as there doesn’t seem to be another spot in the side if India chooses to play Dinesh Karthik.

Of course, the team can bench Dinesh Karthik and allow either Ishan Kishan or Deepak Hooda to open the batting with Rohit Sharma and then slot in ex-Indian skipper Virat Kohli at number 3 and Suryakumar Yadav at number 4.

Rishabh Pant will also be back in the playing XI and will don the gloves as India’s first-choice wicketkeeper. Spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will take the place of Axar Patel and will provide more with the bat in hand.

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah is likely to replace Arshdeep Singh who made his debut in the series opener and bowled economically, also picking up a couple of cheap wickets at the end. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is looking in sensational bowling rhythm and has the ball on a string at the moment. He will be complemented by Harshal Patel who probably has the best slower ball in the business at the moment.

England won’t be too disappointed with their effort in the first T20. They would know by now that collapses do happen, especially during tall run chases and newly appointed captain Jos Buttler should just take it as par for the course.

That said, they will be raring to come back strongly, particularly Jason Roy who looked like a club cricketer in the first T20, unable to pick the swing early and looking very tentative against Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh. The home site is not likely to make a lot of changes to their playing XI. If at all, Richard Gleeson can come in for Tymal Mills who looked like the most hittable bowler in the England lineup in Southampton.

A blistering Test match between England and India was witnessed recently at the Edgbaston cricket ground.
