England batter Jonny Bairstow continued to make the most of his form as he brought up his 11th career hundred, his third on the trot, on Day 3 of the Edgbaston Test against India.

Bairstow, who scored blistering hundreds in the last two Tests against New Zealand, was struggling in the initial phase where the ball was moving and the Indian bowlers were firmly on top.

At one point, he was playing on 12 off 54 deliveries but the Yorkshire batter trusted his capabilities and waited till the Dukes ball wore off to begin the assault on the visitors.

He started the counter-attack alongside Ben Stokes, with whom he stitched 66 runs for the 6th wicket after England was reduced to 83/5 in the 26th over.

Once he got into his rhythm, there was no stopping the 32-year-old as he went after Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj, the latter bearing the brunt once again in a different format altogether.

Although Stokes fell to an abysmal shot, Bairstow carried on and brought up his 11th Test ton in just 119 balls, the fastest hundred against India since 2016 in the longest format of the game.

He has single-handedly ensured that England doesn’t fall below the follow-on score and has given hopes in a match that had started slipping away from the hosts due to poor batting.
