Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya might not just be making a return to the national team but could well be in contention to become the skipper in the near future.

Hardik has left Gujarat Titans (GT) to the finals of the IPL 2022 season in an impressive fashion. The captaincy hasn’t affected his batting either and he has scored 453 runs in 14 matches at an average of 45.30.

If he can secure his place in the Indian team as an all-rounder, Hardik could also be made the captain. The selectors have been impressed with the maturity shown by the 27-year-old and they will be hoping he can keep it up.

Hardik has been impressive. What is more satisfying is that he has become a very responsible player as a captain. He is certainly in the scheme of things for the captaincy role for the Ireland tour,” a member of the selection committee was quoted as saying by InsideSport.

“What’s important is that Hardik Pandya remains fit and in-form” – Selection committee

Hardik Pandya has battled against injuries far too often and has been one of the reasons why he lost his place in the Indian team to Venkatesh Iyer. If he can contribute with the ball, the Baroda player is one of the biggest assets for the Men in Blue.

See, it’s still too early to make any announcements. Hardik is one of the names but a decision will be taken only during the South Africa series. What’s important is that he remains fit and in form. He is a very crucial member of the squad,” the member further stated.

Under Hardik’s captaincy, GT won 10 of their 14 matches in the league and ended the group stage on the top of the table.
