IND vs IRE: He's Not Overawed By Any Opposition – Ravi Shastri Backs Rahul Tripathi To Make India Debut In Ireland T20Is

Former India National Cricket Team head coach Ravi Shastri showered praise on the 31-year-old batter Rahul Tripathi and backed him to make his India debut in the two-match T20I series against the Ireland National Cricket Team.

The first match of the two-match T20I series between Hardik Pandya-led India National Cricket Team and Ireland National Cricket Team will be played at The Village, Malahide, Dublin on Sunday, June 26.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Shastri said that Tripathi keeps the scoreboard ticking whenever he is at the crease. He added that Tripathi is not “overawed by any opposition or by any bowler” and he has got an amazing “shot-making ability”.

“When he is there at the crease, the scoreboard is ticking. He doesn’t go behind the edged ball”, said the former Team India head coach.

“Shot-making ability, the all-round game that he has, he’s not overawed by any opposition or by any bowler. He’s scoring at a great rate. You know which is tremendous at no.3 because he sets it up beautifully”, he further added.

Rahul Tripathi was in sensational form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as he scored 413 runs for Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 14 games at an average of 37.55 and a strike rate of 158.24. Also, he smashed 3 half-centuries in the Indian Premier League 2022.

After receiving his maiden India call-up for Ireland T20I series, Tripathi said that it is a dream come true moment for him. The 31-year-old added that he will give his best if he gets the opportunity to play for India in the two-match T20I series against the Ireland National Cricket Team.

“It is a very big opportunity, a dream come true (moment) and (I) appreciate (it),” Tripathi told PTI.

“I am very happy that the selectors and everybody believed in me and whatever hard work I have put in, I have got the rewards. And hopefully, if I get an opportunity to play, I will try and give my best,” he further added.
