After scoring an incredible 104 off 57 balls against Ireland in Malahide on Tuesday, 28 June, Indian batsman Deepak Hooda became the fourth Indian T20 century winner for his country.
The fans in the crowded stadium in Ireland were in awe of Hooda’s ability to access all areas of the pitch without losing his shape as India made fun and piled up 225 runs in 20 overs, partly down to the combination between Hooda and Sanju Samson.

Fans raced to social media to show their support for the Lucknow Super Giants batter, who has been in outstanding form since April 2022, as the T20 World Cup approaches in Australia later this year and the first India selection has still to be finalised.
Following his outstanding performance in the IPL, when he was completely in charge of LSG’s acceleration in the middle overs, Hooda was given a position in the Indian team. The Rohtak native gave back the selectors’ confidence by scoring a century in the second game after showing up in the first with a stroke-filled 47 off 29 balls.
Aakash Chopra and Sanjay Manjrekar, among others, were in awe of the player and came to Twitter to show their support.
“Deepak Hooda owned this series. Totally. And he happens to be the man who’s not got enough chancesbut how do you accommodate him when the senior guys are back? Run-up to the World Cup is going to be really entertaining,” wrote Chopra.
Going into the World Cup, India will face stiff competition in the batting order, which would be made much more challenging if the team, particularly its older members, stay healthy. It would be intriguing to see how the Indian squad chooses its players for the T20 World Cup given that players like Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli hold the top three spots.
