IRE vs IND: They Are Knocking On The Door – Graeme Swann On Deepak Hooda, Sanju Samson

Former England spinner Graeme Swann applauded India batters Deepak Hooda and Sanju Samson for their terrific knocks against the Ireland National Cricket Team in the second T20I of the two-match T20I series at The Village, Dublin.

In the second T20I, Hooda scored 104 runs off 57 balls, including 9 amazing fours and 6 outstanding sixes while the wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson scored 77 runs off 42 balls, including 9 brilliant fours and 4 incredible sixes.

During a discussion on Sony Sports after India’s four-run win against Ireland in the 2nd T20I, Swann said that one or two spots will open up in the Indian team after the World Cup and Hooda and Samson would fill those gaps.

“They are knocking on the door and some would argue that there will that will be definitely up for grabs sooner rather than later. You got couple of huge names that will come back into the reckoning for the World Cup – Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

“But after the World Cup I wouldn’t be surprised if one or two spaces really open up and there is no better way to stand up and scream ‘I want that spot’ than they batted tonight,” Swann said.

Former England spinner further said that the shots played by Hooda and Samson in the match against Ireland were terrific and he labelled them as “world-class players”.

“Yes it is a small ground and the total can be taken with a little bit of a pinch of salt. But these shots that Hooda and Samson were playing, no matter how small the ground was, they were flying miles. They are world-class players,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Hooda-Samson duo added 176 runs together in just 87 balls with Samson contributing 67 runs off 34 balls and Hooda contributing 98 runs off 53 deliveries.

The 176-run partnership between Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda is the highest for any wicket for India in T20 Internationals and the highest second-wicket partnership in men’s T20Is in the world.
