The all-rounder led India past the 300-run threshold with an unbeaten 37 off just 16 deliveries that included three 4s and the same amount of 6s. Washington Sundar was similarly successful with the ball despite not getting a wicket. With a 4.2 bowling economy, the spinner exceeded his run allotment by 42 runs.

Tom Latham Unbeaten Knock Takes New Zealand Past India’s Total

In the opening ODI in Auckland, the Shikhar Dhawan-led team amassed a respectable 306/7 on the scoreboard. The Kiwis, however, managed to reach the goal with 17 extra balls.

Tom Latham, who went on to score 145 off just 104 deliveries on Friday, was the driving force behind New Zealand’s convincing victory. Along with him, captain Kane Williamson contributed with an undefeated 94 off 98 deliveries.

India’s victory left them down 0-1 in the three-match series, but the Men In Blue will aim to take away quite a few positives from the battle.

Umran Malik, who played in his first ODI, claimed two wickets while giving up 66 runs. Later in the inning, he removed Daryl Mitchell after packing Devon Conway for 24 (42). The tearaway fast frequently surpassed the 150 km/h level. 

W V Raman Lauds Washington Sundar

W V Raman, a former coach of India’s women’s cricket team, was really happy with Sundar’s efforts and offered a proposal for the teams that the all-rounder plays for.

On Sunday, the second game in the series will take place at Hamilton’s Seddon Park.
