The 2nd ODI match between India & New Zealand got washed out due to rain. New Zealand had won the toss and opted to bowl first. There was incessant rain in which India managed to score 89-1 in 12.5 overs before the game was called off. Shubman Gill, the dashing right-handed batter played an unbeaten knock of 45 runs in 42 balls and was looking ominous.

The spectators were quite disappointed as the rain played the spoilsport. Due to the wash-out, New Zealand now is in the 3rd position of the World Super League Table with 125 points from 17 matches. India is at the top with 134 points from 20 matches.

Ravi Shastri On Shubman Gill

Ravi Shastri was having an interaction with Amazon Prime Video and was asked about Shubman Gill.

“His emphasis today was in the timing of the ball. Sometimes when you are out of your depth, you want to get on with it by trying to hit the ball hard. He was in good control with good footwork. It is great to watch him play. There is something regal about him,” said Ravi Shastri.

“He is a quality player and he’s going to be around for a long time (decade’s time). He has good work ethics, he trains hard, he’s hungry and he loves this game. He will continue to play because his grooming is good, he is always grounded,” he added.

Shubman Gill – a rising star

The batter in the first 2 ODIs has shown that he can play the waiting game as well as be aggressive in his approach. In a short span of time, the batter has become an inseparable part of the team. Shubman Gill would be eyeing the 3rd opener’s slot in case Dhawan or Rohit gets injured.

With senior batters all set to take part in the Bangladesh ODI series, Gill now has only 1 ODI left to make a strong case for himself in ODI. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan has to make sure that he gets a significant score under his belt as in the 2nd ODI he managed only 3 runs in 10 balls.
