IND vs NZ: Martin Guptill Is One Of New Zealand's Best White-Ball Cricketers, And I'm Confident He'll Keep Improving: Kane Williamson

Martin Guptill, a senior opener, will not play for New Zealand in the next white-ball series against India (three T20Is and three ODIs). The T20 World Cup team management chose the young duo of Devon Conway and Finn Allen over Guptill because it was more advantageous for them.
In the meantime, New Zealand Cricket chose Allen over Guptill in the series immediately following the T20 WC because the seasoned opener was left out of the 15-person squad.

Kane Williamson, the Kiwi captain, praised Guptill ahead of the India series, saying that he will work hard to develop his game because the doors for him are not entirely closed at the moment, as he still has a chance to make the squad for the ODI World Cup next year, which will be hosted in India.
Williamson termed Guptill one of the best white-ball cricketers to play for New Zealand in response to a News18 Cricketnext question during a select media session organised by Prime Video ahead of the India vs. New Zealand series.
“We just ended the T20 World Cup a few days ago, and Martin was very much in that team. When you play at home, the rosters are slightly smaller, so you travel with fewer players, and the squad has been selected appropriately.”

“But, in my opinion, Martin is the best white-ball cricketer New Zealand has ever had, or at least one of the best. As a result, he offers a lot of really wonderful traits to the team,” Williamson added.
“Martin Guptill was outstanding throughout the World Cup”: Kane Williamson
The 36-year-old Guptill leads New Zealand in runs scored in T20 Internationals. He has scored 3531 runs with a strike rate of 135.7 in 122 T20Is. He is one of the select few batters in T20Is to record two centuries. He also ranks third among T20I run scorers behind Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Williamson discussed Guptill’s participation in the recently finished T20 World Cup and claimed that he used his experience to impart knowledge to the squad members.

“He was great during the World Cup, even when he wasn’t playing; he clearly uses his expertise to get alongside the players, which I believe is equally essential.” “Real credit to him, and I’m sure as a player, he will continue to progress and contribute as much as he can to the sport,” he continued.
Martin Guptill has 7346 runs at an outstanding average of 41.73 in 198 ODIs. Guptill is renowned for his rapid sixes and powerful strokeplay. Williamson, Brendon McCullum, Ross Taylor, and Guptill all contributed significantly to New Zealand’s white-ball revolution.
