The 1st T20I match between India and New Zealand was washed out due to incessant rain. The selection panel made some interesting and shocking decisions as they made Hardik Pandya as the skipper and astoundingly didn’t include Prithvi Shaw in the team who has been amassing tons of runs.

The Men in Blue are coming back off a semi-final defeat against England where they were completely outplayed in all the 3 facets of the game. The team would be aiming for a new beginning as it looks unlikely that all senior players would be back in the mix for the next T20 WC 2024.

You want to change the style of play in PP overs, this is THE opportunity to play the guy who’s naturally destructive,” tweeted Aakash Chopra.

Great Chance for New Zealand

Martin Guptill and Trent Boult are not part of the squad against India which was quite surprising. Guptill didn’t play a single T20I match in T20 WC which was quite astonishing. It looks like Black Caps have moved on from Martin Guptill whereas Boult had declined a national contract in order to play franchise leagues. Boult is someone who has the knack of picking up wickets regularly for the team with his tricky variations which surprise the opponent.

Kane Williamson’s form has been a concern as his defensive approach is doing no good to the team. It won’t be wrong to say that the mighty Black Caps are in a mess. This makes them a dangerous unit as they have a habit of throwing surprises. It would be interesting to see how the series unfolds as all the eyes would be on Glenn Philips who is in the form of his life.
