Legendary New Zealand National Cricket Team batter Ross Taylor was asked to share his views on how should the Black Caps keep Suryakumar Yadav quiet in the third and final T20I match of the series at McLean Park in Napier on Tuesday, November 22.

Suryakumar Yadav, who is at the No.1 position in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings, has been in dominant form in T20Is for the past 12 months. He batted exceptionally well in the second T20I game against the Kiwis at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday, November 20, and registered his second T20I ton.

The 32-year-old smashed an unbeaten 111 runs off 51 balls to bag the Player of the Match award. His remarkable innings consisted of 11 fours and 7 sixes.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Taylor was asked how should the Kiwi bowlers stop the in-form batter Suryakumar, he responded:

“Bowl to the other guy as much as you can. At the end of the day, he is human and he will make mistakes. When you have a 50-50 chance, you have to take it. But the way he is batting at the moment, you know he was hitting sixes at the MCG and they were going 10, 15 rows back. If he hits it like that at McLean Park, they will be out of the ground.”

I think the way India bowled, they probably overshadowed SKY’s batting – Ross Taylor

The Men In Blue won the second T20I game against New Zealand by 65 runs as the Black Caps were bundled out for 126 while chasing 192. Deepak Hooda picked up a 4-wicket haul, Mohammed Siraj and Yuzvendra Chahal bagged 2 wickets each while Washington Sundar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up one wicket each.

The 38-year-old, meanwhile, opined that the Indian bowlers overshadowed Suryakumar’s remarkable performance in the match. He elaborated:

“I think the way India bowled, they probably overshadowed SKY’s batting even though he all sort of overshadowed them (the entire Indian batting unit). I thought they were very clear in their plans and they executed very well.”

He further gave his verdict on McLean Park and said:

“Some of the young Indian bowlers have been there before but some of these players who haven’t been to Napier, it can be an intimidating place to turn up and know that if a batter misses a head or still probably go for a six.”
