India are set to square up against South Africa in the second of the three Tests at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. The second Test will be played from 3rd to 7th January 2022. India were right on the money in the first Test. Batting first, they posted a formidable 327-run total in the first innings. It was KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal, who set the tone for the huge score.

The duo added 117 runs for the opening wicket. KL Rahul scored a century in his first innings of the series, while Mayank Agarwal scored a valuable 60 off 123. For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi starred with the ball as he picked 6 for 71 in 24 overs.

South Africa, in reply, didn’t perform as expected as Mohammed Shami wreaked havoc with the ball. The Indian seamer picked five wickets for just 44 in 16 overs and helped India bundle out South Africa for just 197 runs. India, in their second innings, succumbed to some great bowling display from South Africa bowlers.

Also, a lot had to do with their motive to score as quickly as they can. India, as a result of that, managed to score only 174 runs. Rishabh Pant top-scored for them with run-a-ball 34. Rabada and Marco Jansen picked 4 wickets each. Despite getting out on a low score, India was able to target 305 runs for South Africa to win the Test.

India bowlers continued to bowl with a lot of grit and discipline in the last innings. They took the first four wickets for just 94 runs on the fourth day of the Test before removing the last six wickets on the final day of the Test match. South Africa were bowled out for 191 runs in the last innings and thereby lost the Test match by 113 runs.

Dean Elgar was the only batsman who looked assured at the crease. He made 77 off 156 balls. However, once he got out, India didn’t take a lot of time to wrap things up. In what has come as a major development, Quinton de Kock has announced his retirement from Test Cricket. He won’t be playing for South Africa in the remaining two matches of the Test series.
