Indian Test captain and former limited-overs skipper Virat Kohli has confirmed that he is available for selection for the upcoming three-match ODI series in South Africa. There were rumoured reports floating that Kohli has asked the BCCI for a break after the three Tests that preceded the ODIs.

Kohli, who was recently sacked as the ODI captain of the Indian team and replaced by the BCCI with Rohit Sharma, reportedly wanted to spend time with his family after the three-Test matches, and possibly celebrate his daughter Vamika’s first birthday as well.

The upcoming Test series will also see Virat Kohli playing his 100th Test, a huge occasion for the cricketer. It was also reportedly a rift between Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who is highly likely to return for the ODI series, in which he is expected to lead in a full-time capacity for the first time.

I Am Always Available For Selection In ODI: Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is one of the best batters in the world today and has 7801 runs in 97 Test matches. He averages 50.65 and has 27 centuries and 27 fifties to his name, with the highest score being 254*.

Kohli didn’t play the 3-match T20I home series against New Zealand recently on the grounds of taking a break. Therefore, opting to take another break might only fuel speculations of a ‘rift’ brewing in the dressing room.

But Virat Kohli himself has reportedly put an end to all rumours by saying in a presser ahead of the Indian team’s departure for South Africa by saying that he is available for selection for the ODI series in South Africa and asked the journalists to speak to the people writing baseless rumoured pieces from unknown sources if they wanted more news on the supposed ‘rift’.

“You should ask these questions who are writing these articles and sources – all these people who are writing are not credible – I am always available for selection in ODI”, Kohli said in the presser.

Kohli will be leading India in a three-Test series starting December 26 in Centurion and the series ends on January 15 in Cape Town with the third and final Test. The three-match ODI series will kick off on January 19.
