IND vs WI: Dinesh Karthik Was Chosen Because Of His Performance In The IPL, But He Was Even Better: Parthiv Patel Is "Surprised" By Mohammed Shami's Absence From The T20Is

Parthiv Patel, a former wicketkeeper for India, expressed surprise at Mohammed Shami’s exclusion from T20Is and asserted that Shami had outperformed Dinesh Karthik in the IPL 2022.
West Indies defeated Team India by five wickets in the second T20I of the series in Basseterre. India’s performance at the plate was terrible; the team was dismissed for just 138 runs before the bowlers put up a heroic fight before losing in the match’s final over.

With a victory and a 1-1 tie in the five-match series, the hosts were led by Obed McCoy’s six-wicket haul, Brandon King’s half-century, and Devon Thomas’ unbeaten 31 off 18 balls.

With the Windies needing 10 runs to win, India’s captain Rohit Sharma unexpectedly gave Avesh Khan the last over. There were two overs left in the game when Bhuvneshwar Kumar made the choice, and the crowd was very upset about it. While Rohit clarified after the game that the choice was made to put the young players in perilous situations, the experts persisted in their disagreement.
‘Why they are not considering Mohammed Shami’: Parthiv Patel
Parthiv Patel, a former India wicketkeeper-batsman, initially agreed with Rohit’s choice but then expressed astonishment that Mohammed Shami was not included in the squad when talking about India’s bowling selection. The hero, who is now 31 years old, has not played in a T20I since the World Cup last year, but he still plays a crucial role in the Test and ODI system.
“Bhuvi must bowl two overs upfront when he is playing. Next, we have Bumrah and Arshdeep. Why Mohammed Shami is not being considered as a new ball bowler still baffles me. Harshal has performed admirably, while Dinesh Karthik was chosen for India based on his IPL performance.
“As a bowler, Mohammed Shami performed even better in the IPL. He collected up wickets for Gujarat Titans and won them the trophy,” Parthiv said on Cricbuzz.

“The decision might not be terrible. The team may be the same as the one that competed in the T20 World Cup last year, but these players have improved. Similar to Shami, Bhuvi has improved since the last World Cup.
“The new ball is helping him bowl well. Although Shami has improved at Punjab and Gujarat in the IPL, we still claim that he has not bowled well in death overs.”
The West Indies will face India in the third T20I of the ongoing series. The third T20I between West Indies and India will be played on August 2. (Tuesday).
