The choice between Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Hooda as Team India’s backup choice for the forthcoming T20 World Cup and the Asia Cup, in the opinion of former Indian wicketkeeper Saba Karim, is likely appropriate at this point.

Karim emphasized the significance of the No. 3 spot in Twenty20 matches and thinks Virat Kohli will be Team India’s first choice for that position.

Iyer has struggled to create an impact while playing at No. 3 in the current West Indies series. His recent T20I performances have generally been below average.

In the few games that Deepak Hooda has played for India, he has simply been outstanding. If he is selected for the T20 World Cup team in this short amount of time, it would be a remarkable accomplishment.

Before travelling to St. Kitts for the following two games in the T20I series, Team India played a match in Tarouba, Trinidad. Two games in Florida will serve as the tour’s finale.

‘Hooda should be played at position three’: Saba Karim

Saba Karim stressed the value of getting either Deepak Hooda or Iyer ready for the No. 3 position as a backup for Kohli in an interview with India News Sports on Friday. He said,

“When Virat Kohli is available, he will enter the starting lineup at No. 3. However, the moment has come for the selectors to select a middle-order backup batsman. If they have faith in Shreyas Iyer, they should keep casting him and wait for him to regain his form,” Saba Karim said.

“But if they are still testing things out, Hooda should be played at position three. Additionally, he can play well with the ball, which is a great asset for Team India,” Saba Karim Added.

India and West Indies will play in the fourth Twenty20 International of the five-game series on Saturday in Lauderhill, Florida (August 6). The Indians are in the lead 2-1 in the T20I series after winning the first and third games.
