West Indies lost the 5th match by 88 runs and lost the series 4-1.

India was led by Hardik Pandya in the fifth T20I. He elected to bat first after winning the toss.

Both teams made 4 changes in order to give their remaining players game time. Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, and Kuldeep Yadav took the place of regular captain Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar while for the West Indies Shamarh Brooks, Odean Smith, Keemo Paul, and Haymarh Walsh replaced  Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, Akeal Hosein, and Alzarri Joseph respectively.

India scored 188 runs in the first innings thanks to Iyer’s half-century.

We Need To Be Good In Execution: Nicholas Pooran

West Indies’ pursuit got off to the worst possible start when Axar Patel claimed three of their wickets during the powerplay. Even after Shimron Hetmeyer’s half-century, WI could not even come close to the target.

Pooran was not happy with the result.

We were just not good enough. We didn’t learn from our mistakes. We just weren’t up to the challenge, just didn’t put enough partnerships. To come up against tough teams, we need to be good in execution. Be it in the batting group or bowling group, we have a lot of catching up to do. I just hope that we as a team learn from these losses.

We’re building towards the World Cup and hopefully, we can do that right. (On Holder opening the batting) Obviously, King and Mayers didn’t play today, so we needed someone to open. Just thought of giving him an opportunity to bat higher up. We all know what he can do down the order. It (playing two spinners) is something we have to think about in the future. India has shown why they are better than us in this series”, Pooran said after the match.
