India vs West Indies, WI Playing 11 vs IND (Predicted), 3rd ODI, India Tour Of West Indies 2022. India will play against West Indies in the inconsequential 3rd ODI on 27th July 2022 at 7:00 pm IST in Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad. India won the first 2 matches and in the process won the ODI series 2-0 with one more match to go. They will look to give chances to a few other players in the squad and test their bench strength further.
West Indies on the other hand played impressive cricket despite losing both the matches in this series. They will look for a consolation win before going into the T20I series. Despite being a dead rubber one expect a close contest going by the trend of the series.
In the 2nd ODI, West Indies openers Kyle Mayers (39 runs) and Shai Hope (115 runs) gave an attacking 65-run start and Shai Hope combined with Nicholas Pooran (74 runs) and Shamarh Brooks (35 runs) in the middle overs to score his 13th century. They finished with a massive score of 311/6 in the 50 overs with good cameos in the final overs.
Alzarri Joseph and Jayden Seales were excellent with the ball with combined figures of 20-1-86-3 but the former leaked a few runs in the 46th over of the Indian innings. Spinners Akeal Hossain and Hayden Walsh were taken for runs ta 8 RPO and Kyle Mayers tried to fill in for them but was unable to stem the run flow effectively.
India`s top order got starts but failed to make them big and was reeling at 79/3 before Shreyas Iyer (64 runs) and Sanju Samson (54 runs) made a 99-run partnership to bring the chase back on track. Deepak Hooda (33 runs) and Axar Patel (64* runs) then took forward the chase with the latter playing a blinder in the final over of the finish.

Shai Hope
Shai Hope is the vice-captain of the ODI team. The wicketkeeper-batsman is the only West Indian to be ranked in the Top 20 in the ICC men’s ODI batting rankings. Shai Hope, who ranks 15th, had a disappointing ODI series against Bangladesh — he could only manage scores of 0, 18, and 2.
But Shai Hope’s recent scores could mean little against India. The 28-year-old likes playing against India. Shai Hope has scored 855 runs against the visitors in 21 innings and averages 47.5. This includes four fifties and 3 hundred. Indian bowlers will have to be careful against Shai Hope who has amassed 4193 runs in 100 ODIs averaging 49.92. He has hit 13 tons in the 50 overs format.
He scored 7 off 18 balls before being dismissed by Mohammed Siraj in the 1st ODI. But he went all guns blazing in his 100th ODI, scoring 115 off 135 balls which included 8 fours and 3 sixes.
Brandon King
Brandon King is a bit of an enigma. He originally started as a middle-order batter for Jamaica, but Johan Botha, the coach of Amazon Warriors at the time, transformed him into a hard-hitting opener in CPL 2019.
Brandon King responded to the CPL promotion with 496 runs in 12 innings at an average of 55.11 and a strike rate of almost 150, including an unbeaten 132 in the first qualifier. Brandon King might not have even been in West Indies’ recent squads had Evin Lewis and Shimron Hetmyer not been omitted on fitness grounds. He has scored only 386 runs in 17 ODIs averaging a modest 25.73 with 3 fifties.
He scored 54 runs off 66 balls in the 1st ODI against visitors before being a victim of Yuvendra Chahal. He scored a 5-ball duck in the 2nd ODI falling again to Yuzvendra Chahal.
Shamarh Brooks
Shamarh Brooks has played 17 ODIs, all in 2022, amassing 613 runs and averaging 38.31. He has hit 1 ton and 3 fifties in the 50 overs format. He would certainly hope to amend his strike rate of 76.62 in ODIs though.
He has also featured in 11 Tests and 6 T20Is with moderately less batting averages compared to ODIs though. Shamarh Brooks scored 46 of 61 balls in an innings studded with 4 fours and 1 six before being Shardul Thakur’s victim in the 1st ODI. He scored 35 off 36 balls with 5 fours in the 2nd ODI.
Kyle Mayers
A left-handed batsman who bowls useful medium pace, Kyle Mayers traveled to England as a reserve for West Indies in 2020 before making his T20I debut in New Zealand later in the year. He has featured in 13 Tests, 13 ODIs, and 10 T20Is. He averages 31.25 in ODIs where he has amassed 375 runs with 1 fifty and 1 ton.
He has picked up 6 scalps in ODIs but returned wicketless in the 1st ODI conceding 17 runs in 2 overs. He top scored with 75 off 68 balls in the 1st ODI against India, an innings studded with 10 fours and 1 six before being Shardul Thakur’s victim.
He scored 39 off 23 balls in the 2nd ODI before being caught and bowled by Deepak Hooda. He picked scalps of opener Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav in the 2nd ODI, returning with figures of 2/48 in 7.4 overs.
Nicholas Pooran
Nicholas Pooran confirmed his status as one of the most exciting young batting talents in the modern game with sublime innings of 118 off 103 in West Indies’ defeat to Sri Lanka at the 2019 World Cup, but only four years earlier the idea that he would play international cricket seemed fanciful.
A year after finishing as the fourth-highest run-scorer at the U-19 World Cup in early 2014, Nicholas Pooran was involved in a serious car accident that left him with a torn patella tendon, and fractured tibia, and a fractured ankle. After a long recovery process, he was handy a substantial contract for Barbados Tridents in the 2016 CPL on Kieron Pollard’s recommendation.
The West Indies skipper has amassed 1392 ODI runs in 48 ODIs and 1302 runs in 60 T20Is averaging 35.69 and 29.56 in the two formats respectively. He has hit a ton in ODI besides the 9 fifties in both ODI and T20I formats.
He had also picked up 6 scalps in ODIs with a best of 4/48 averaging 28. He scored 25 of 26 balls before being dismissed by Mohammed Siraj in the 1st ODI but was hammered by Indian batters as he had figures of 2-0-23-0. He scored a 77 ball 74 with 1 four and 6 sixes before being bowled by Shardul Thakur in the 2nd ODI but he didn’t bowl.
Rovman Powell
Indian cricket fans are now familiar with all-rounder Rovman Powell. The West Indian fetched a handsome Rs 2.80 crore in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction to play for Delhi Capitals. In January, Rovman Powell blasted his first T20I hundred against England. A month later, he smashed an unbeaten 68 in just 36 balls against India at the Eden Gardens and almost single-handedly won the game for his side.
Then, in summer, while playing in the IPL 2022, Rovman Powell punished countryman Obed McCoy with five sixes in the final over of a chase. The Jamaican’s power hits can change the course of a game in the space of a few overs.
Rovman Powell is also a handy medium-pace bowler too. Rovman Powell has proved himself in T20 cricket and would be itching to improve his ODI numbers too. He scored only 6 off 7 balls in the 1st ODI against India and scored 13 off 10 in the 2nd ODI. He has scored 897 runs in 45 ODIs averaging 23 with 1 ton and 2 fifties.
Romario Shepherd
A spirited effort with the bat from Romario Shepherd almost stunned India in the opening ODI on Friday (July 22) before Mohammed Siraj held his nerve to win the contest for the visitors. The all-rounder returned with figures of 1/43 in 7 overs besides scoring an unbeaten 39 off only 25 balls including 3 sixes and 2 fours to almost clinching a win for West Indies chasing a stiff target.
He scored an unbeaten 15 and picked 1/69 in the 2nd ODI. He has scored 214 runs in 18 ODIs and 149 runs in 20 T20Is averaging 16.58 and 37.25 respectively. He has hit 1 fifty. He has also picked 11 ODI and 20 T20I scalps averaging 54.64 and 28.55 respectively.
Jayden Seals
Jayden Seals has picked 36 Test scalps from 9 Tests and 4 scalps from 6 ODIs but is yet to play a T20I. The left-arm batter and right-handed pacer average a poor 67.75 with the ball in the 50-over format. He returned with figures of 9-0-54-0 in the 1st ODI against India but picked 1/40 in the 2nd ODI. He was the most economical bowler from both sides.
More experienced Keemo Paul, who has 25 scalps in 22 ODIs and has amassed 283 runs averaging 24.18 may replace him in the XI if the think tank opts to tinker with the combination for the 2nd ODI.
Akeal Hosein
Akeal Hosein is fast emerging as one of the best left-arm finger spinners in white-ball cricket. The 29-year-old idolizes Ravindra Jadeja. Akeal Hosein has played 25 ODIs and picked 38 wickets averaging 28. But it is his accuracy that makes him a much better bowler. He picked up 1 scalp conceding 51 runs in the 1st ODI. He was expensive returning with 1/72 in 9 overs in the 2nd ODI.
Akeal Hosein has an economy of just 4.7 in ODIs. Akeal Hosein’s left-arm spin could be effective against the Indian batting order which is stacked with right-hand batsmen. Akeal Hosein is an impressive fielder too as was evident from the stunning catch that he took off his own bowling to dismiss England’s Liam Livingstone in the last year’s T20 World Cup. He has picked up 17 scalps in 23 T20Is at 29.58.
Hayden Walsh
Hayden Walsh bowled only 3 overs and conceded 24 runs in the 2nd ODI against India. West Indies replaced Gudakesh Motie with Hayden Walsh Jr in the playing XI after the former suffered a fractured thumb on Friday. Hayden Walsh has picked 26 scalps in 21 ODIs averaging 32.07 and 29 scalps in 34 T20Is averaging 23.82. The spinner’s best figures in ODIs is 5/39.
